V is a video game in the action genre developed by Kaos and published by Ocean Software Ltd. originally released in 1986. It is currently playable on Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum.
There were two very popular science fiction miniseries called "V" in 1983 and "V: The Final Battle" in 1984, both of which spawned a weekly TV series season also in 1984-1985. The plot involves an alien invasion of Earth by a race of reptilians known as "The Visitors". In this game, you play Mike DonoVan, a resistance leader who infiltrates the Visitors' massive spaceship to blow up its reactor by planting explosives at key points.
Aliens will try to stop you, as will surveillance, cleaning, maintenance and security robots. If you are touched by robots or shot at, a static charge will speed up your heartbeat. If this happens multiple times, you need to rest or it could kill you. In 8 different laboratories you will find formulas for Red Powder, which is lethal to aliens; releasing it at air purification plants will kill a lot of them and also slow down the robots. You can use a laser, and when the charge runs out, you can jump over or roll under enemies.
The game screen has three sections. The middle and top section are corridors you'll go through, and there's one above or below you. The bottom of the screen is a communicator with several sections. One of them allows you to monitor the messages of the aliens and send mixed messages; another shows your score and time remaining, as well as health and laser power. There is a six-button menu: pause/exit, ship information, set explosives, return to game, show security code, and information on the formula for anti-alien red powder. Additionally, there are six number keys (aliens count in base 6) that you must use to enter security codes and unlock the doors. You can also move between levels using teleportation platforms. Finding the key points on the ship is crucial before activating the explosives, which will have a timer that will give you a chance to escape before the ship explodes.
