Virtua Fighter: Kids is a video game in the action genre developed by SEGA-AM2 Co., LTD. and published by SEGA Enterprises Ltd. originally released in 1996. It is currently playable on SEGA Saturn, Arcade.

Virtua Fighter: Kids, released by SEGA in 1996, was a unique entry in the iconic Virtua Fighter series. It was an arcade-style adaptation tailored towards younger demographic, featuring scaled down character sizes and animations. Replacing the serious demeanor and darker settings of the original game with vibrant colors and cheerful, child-friendly areas, the title was uncharacteristically lighthearted for its time.

Featuring eleven characters, each of which could be customized with different clothing and colours, Kids’ roster contained all the favorites from the first game alongside a few exclusive newcomers. These colorful, kid-sized combatants could be changed into various battle stances, from karate to judo, to fight it out in the various original stages. During battle, players could select from a range of moves including punches, kicks, throws, elbows, and knees.

The game could be played solo or with friends. While the solo mode enabled players to travel through a series of battles, the game could also be enjoyed in multiplayer mode. Turning the game into a one-on-one tournament, players from around the world virtually fought it out in three different settings. These ranged from Street Fight in which all players start with the same set of skills, to Master mode, in which players created their own sets of moves and levels to fight in.

Virtua Fighter: Kids brought SEGA’s classic title to the younger gaming market. Featuring kid-friendly graphics, cartoon-style artwork, and a focus on accessible gameplay, it opened the franchise to a younger market. With its innovative blend of visuals and accessible gameplay, it stands out as a unique addition to the iconic gaming series.
